Imre Mezei opened his first distillery in 1984 and founded Grappa Ltd. in 1992. The company initially started pay distillation in Mezőkövesd (130km East of Budapest) and Tibolddaróc. Since 2004, we have also broadened our distillery with commercial distillation in Ostoros where we bottle our own Pálinka products for commercial use.
As a family business with four employees, we aim to be a competitor of the Italian Grappa in the Hungarian market. We are fermenting many different and unique fruits and raw materials to produce Palinka such as (torkoly) pomace, pomace matured in barrel, grapes, grapes matured in barrel, (agyas) bedded grapes, (borseprő) as well as blackberries, red-currants, raspberries, sour cherries, bluefre plums and gönci peach. We have also make palinka from fruits growing in the wild, which are very rare and considered a genuine delicacy, such as blackthorn, quince and rose hips. We are constantly improving our distillery so we can produce richer and more flavorful Palinka for you.
We opened our Pálinka House in Eger on Mátyás király Street 8th, where individuals and sub-contractors can buy and order our products with cash on delivery. In addition to our Palinka selections, we also offer wines from Ostoros wine region, bottled wines, embroidered matyó products and other pálinka paraphernalia such as glasses and gift bags.
We participate in many shows, exhibitions and tasting tours throughout the year where we try to teach and enhance the culture of palinka consumption in Hungary. We always welcome groups for tasting tours in our Palinka Distillery located in Ostoros (130km from Budapest) and we also welcome orders from licensed liquor wholesalers, retail distributors and liquor bottling plants.
